Dr. Boateng Wiafe is a leading person in Eye Health in Africa. He has gained a respectful reputation in the field of Primary Eye Care. He has successfully performed numerous sight restoration and blindness prevention surgeries and interventions.

He earned his M.Sc. Community Eye health in 1994 at the International Centre for Eye Health, University of London, UK after he had completed a Specialist in Ophthalmology course at the Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania in 1984, and an MD General Medicine from the Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy, IASI, Romania in 1981.

WORK EXPERIENCE

MWAMI HOSPITAL - Zambia (1986 to 1995)

After his internship period in Mwami Hospital in Zambia, he served as an Ophthalmologist in the same hospital from 1986 to 1995, where he established the Eye Department with 32 eye beds.


MWAMI HOSPITAL - Zambia (1995 to 1999)

Dr. Wiafe served also as the Chief of the Medical Staff of Mwami Adventist Hospital, a 210 bed general hospital.


LUSAKA EYE HOSPITAL - Lusaka Zambia (2000 – 2005)

Dr. Wiafe was the co- founder, Ophthalmologist and Medical Director of the Lusaka Eye Hospital in Lusaka Zambia, where in 2005, he operated over 4,000 eye cases.


Operation Eyesight Universal / Chair of the Primary Eye Care (2006 to present)

Dr. Wiafe also served in different capacities with Operation Eyesight Universal which is based in Canada where he is currently serving as the Technical Advisor. Dr. Wiafe is also the Chair of the Primary Eye Care working group or the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB)

Dr. Wiafe is a member of a number of professional organizations, namely;

• Member of the WHO Alliance for the Global Elimination of Blinding Trachoma
